A fire outbreak has razed a Fulani community in Rugar Audu Badali, Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing a mother and her three children.
The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) deployed a rescue team to the affected pastoral community on Saturday morning following the incident, which occurred on Friday, August 21, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m.
The fire completely destroyed residential structures and household belongings, leaving survivors homeless and in distress.
The four victims were identified as members of Mallam Bukar’s family: his wife, Bilkisu, and their three children, Zainab, Hafsat and Salamatu.
SEMA Director of Operations, Mohammed Jalo, said the bodies of the victims had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
Jalo said the agency immediately mobilised a joint assessment and condolence team in collaboration with the Karasuwa Local Government Authority and community stakeholders.
He said the team conducted an on-site assessment and documented the extent of the destruction caused by the fire.
During the visit, officials engaged with the bereaved family and other residents to assess their immediate needs and psychosocial condition.
The SEMA team, alongside the Karasuwa LGA leadership and community stakeholders, also conveyed condolences to Mallam Bukar and his surviving relatives.
According to Jalo, the assessment identified urgent needs for emergency relief, temporary shelter and psychosocial support for displaced survivors.
SEMA reaffirmed its commitment to coordinating timely humanitarian interventions and mobilising the necessary resources to alleviate the suffering of those affected by the disaster.
The agency also appealed for collective efforts to prevent the recurrence of similar fire incidents across communities in the state.
