Firm honours Niger commissioner for digital economy

IT Edge News Africa has honoured one of Nigeria’s 50 Most Valuable Digital Economy Leaders in 2025, Suleiman Isah, Commissioner for Communications Technology and Digital Economy, who was described as the Architect of Niger State’s Digital Renaissance.

The award was presented to the Commissioner by Engineer Ikechukwu Nnamani, the Chief Executive Officer of Digital Realty Nigeria.

In a nation where digital transformation often remains a buzzword, Suleiman Isah, Commissioner for Communications Technology and Digital Economy in Niger State, has emerged as a beacon of tangible progress.

Isah’s visionary leadership has not only redefined tech governance in Niger State but has also earned him a coveted spot among Nigeria’s 50 Most Valuable Personalities in the Digital Economy for 2025, as recognized by IT Edge News Africa.

It is noted that under Isah’s stewardship, Niger State has embarked on an ambitious journey to overhaul its healthcare system through digital innovation. The introduction of a unified health card is revolutionising patient record management across 23 secondary health facilities. This initiative is eradicating the longstanding issues of fragmented medical records and delayed care, ensuring that patients’ medical histories are accessible across the state.

Isah’s commitment to leveraging technology for the public good is evident in the simplification of civil service recruitment processes. By introducing AI-monitored, home-based examinations, the state has eliminated the need for candidates to travel to CBT centres, thereby increasing accessibility and reducing costs.

The commissioner also championed the abolition of fibre optic right-of-way charges, positioning Niger State as a more attractive destination for broadband investment, enhancing connectivity for its citizens.

Recognising the importance of inclusive growth, Suleiman Isah equally championed initiatives aimed at empowering women and youth in the digital economy.

The TechSis programme, for instance, encourages female participation in technology sectors, while partnerships with organisations like African Women in Tech Sales (AWITS) provide women with skills in technology sales, fostering entrepreneurship and economic independence.

Additionally, training programmes targeting artisans, market traders, and school pupils in areas such as e-commerce, robotics, and coding are equipping the next generation with essential digital skills.

Isah’s tenure of less than two years has also seen significant strides in enhancing government efficiency. At the Niger State Internal Revenue Service, he introduced technology-driven systems that have streamlined revenue collection and reduced leakages. Notably, the implementation of electronic tax clearance, self-service assessment systems, and centralised billing solutions has modernised the state’s tax administration.

Moreover, the digitisation of the state’s payroll system has led to the identification and removal of thousands of ghost workers, resulting in substantial savings for the government.

Beyond infrastructural and administrative reforms, Isah has been instrumental in fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. His visit to institutions like Semicolon in Lagos underscores his commitment to investing in talent development and establishing partnerships that can drive sustainable growth in the tech ecosystem.

By integrating technology into education, Suleiman is nurturing a generation that is both tech-savvy and creatively inclined.

Suleiman Isah’s multifaceted approach to digital transformation—encompassing healthcare, education, public service, and economic empowerment—serves as a blueprint for other states in Nigeria.

His recognition as one of the 50 Most Valuable Personalities in Nigeria’s Digital Economy is a testament to his impactful work and visionary leadership.

As Nigeria continues its journey towards a digitally inclusive future, leaders like Isah are not just participating in the transformation — they are leading.
