From Nnamdi Akpa, Abakaliki
The Deputy National President of a faction of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, yesterday called on the South-East governors to flush out what they called Fulani jihadist terrorists from all the forests in Igbo land, noting that over 300 Igbo have been killed by Fulani armed headsmen in just three months.
In a statement in Abakaliki, Isiguzoro noted that the ongoing killings in areas such as Eha Amufu, in Enugu State, Okigwe, in Imo state, Nkalaaha, in Ebonyi State, Uturu, in Abia State, and Umunze, in Anambra State, must be met with unyielding resistance, saying that enough is enough.
Isiguzoro hinted that the continuous killing of Igbo is unacceptable, adding that the situation is compounded by the conspicuous conspiracy of silence exhibited by the South-East governors, which represents a dual tragedy which the Igbo Nation deems unacceptable.
He called on the international community to bear witness that Igbo land is under siege, following killings by Fulani jihadist terrorists who have ruthlessly killed approximately 300 Igbo in just three months. Isiguzoro added that Ohanaeze Ndigbo now demands an immediate cessation of this conspiracy of silence among our governors.
The Deputy National President of the Ohanaeze faction stated that the situation had made investors leave the zone, making the South-East lose its status as a viable economic destination. He, therefore, gave 30 days ultimatum to the South-East governors to expel these killer herdsmen from the region or the organisation would be compelled to appeal for a state of emergency in any affected state.
Isiguzoro called for urgent and decisive action to address the escalating insecurity in the region, stressing that should this inaction persist, Igbo will be left with no alternative but to seek intervention from President Bola Tinubu to invoke Section 305 of Nigeria’s Constitution to declare a state of emergency in the beleaguered states.
