Foundation fetes widows, pledges assistance


Widows-THE Advocacy for Widows Empowerment Foundation (ADWEF) recently honoured widows, some individuals and corporate organizations, who have supported widows’ cause in various ways in the last few years, at an end-of-the-year party organized for widows by the NGO in Lagos recently.

  Among the awardees honoured for their reach-out to the less-privileged widows are: Weekend Vanguard as Media Supporter of widows’ cause 2014, Citizens Necessities Empowerment organization as Widows Cause Organization of the year 2014 and Dr Taiwo Olayinka Afolabi , Group Executive Vice Chairman, SIFAX Group as The Outstanding Individual Supporter of Widows’ Cause 2014.

  According to Mr. Willie Workman-Oga, Founder of ADWEF, the end-of-year-party for the widows is another day of honouring stakeholders who have been fighting widows’ cause making them feel the impulse of the Yuletide.

  He explained: “In the past, we have empowered hundreds of widows by giving them working instruments ranging from sewing machines, grinding machines, generators, Hair driers, among others. We have also conducted seminars and training programmes to enhance the skills of widows, and partnered with MENAFA on the Girl Child Summit.”

  “In carrying out this laudable assignment, I want to thank our partners who have made it possible for us to host this year’s event. These good corporate citizens include but not limited to the following; Seplat Petroleum Developing Company PLC, an international oil prospecting company, Plan –B health Check Company, Sebeecley, Coca Cola Nigerian Bottling Company Ltd, Flour Mill Plc. makers of Golden Penny Foods, Leadership and Style Magazine, National News and individuals such as Dr. Bisi Abiola, and host of others,” he stated.

 The event also featured a fashion show which showcased various designs from one of the empowered widows Mrs Juliana Abudu and her daughter Jessica Abudu with their fashion label called OtSe, which means beauty in their native Auchi dialect. They displayed awesome designs and creativity which earned them a lot of applause from other widows and invited guests at the event.
