The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cautioned motorists in Yewa North Local Council and surrounding areas against over-speeding, drunk driving and other reckless behaviours that could lead to accidents during the Ember Months.
The Unit Commander, ACC Ramoni Alade, gave the warning during a courtesy visit to the Ayetoro council secretariat.
Alade said the corps had launched a sensitisation campaign titled “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving,” to educate motorists on safe road practices.
He explained that all motor parks and relevant stakeholders would be engaged in the campaign.
“We need to inform them that during the Ember Months, all road users, especially drivers, must ensure their vehicles are in good condition. They should avoid speeding, check their tyres for expiration, and obey traffic rules. Most importantly, motorists should not drink while driving or drive under the influence of alcohol, as it poses significant risks,” he said.
Alade also noted that the FRSC was working in synergy with the Nigeria Police and the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps to curb reckless driving.
The Chairman of the Council, Dr Olusola Akinbode, commended the initiative, describing it as timely given the surge in vehicular and human movement towards the end of the year.
He added that the sensitisation exercise would help instil a culture of safety among road users.
