Fuel scarcity hits Zamfara as commercial vehicles hike fees

Most filling stations in Zamfara State have closed, forcing transporters and commercial motorcycle riders to increase their transportation fee in the state.

The Guardian reports that many people, especially in Gusau metropolis, have resorted to trekking long distances due to the increase in transportation fees.

The commercial motorcycle riders blame the increase on fuel scarcity, saying that there were long queues at the few filling stations that were operating.

Our reporter visited many filling stations, including the federal government’s owned petrol stations, and discovered that many were shut down while those still operating have increased their fuel prices.

According to a commercial motorcycle rider, Ishiaku Muhammad, the business was no longer profitable due to a lack of patronage.

“I parked my motorcycle because moving around Gusau without passengers is a waste of time and resources”, he lamented.

Another resident of Gusau, Ahmad Usman, also lamented that since the first day President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office and removed fuel subsidy, people have been facing serious economic problems.

“He did not study what was on the ground before taking the harsh decision to remove fuel subsidy”, he added.
