Gov. Yusuf engages 484 elected Councillors, announces N4.8 billion community projects

In a significant move to ensure equitable distribution of developmental projects and spread of dividend of democracy at the grassroot levels, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has engaged 484 elected councillors from the 44 local councils of the state.

At a maiden session with the council’s legislators at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano, Governor Yusuf emphasised on dispensation of good governance and zero tolerance to corruption.

Governor Yusuf informed that the meeting was convened to address critical issues and brainstorm on how to execute viable projects at the grassroots.

He added that the State Government is planning to implement projects at the grassroots worth N4.8 billion in the areas of school renovations, drilling of boreholes, building of dispensaries and local scholarship among others.

Yusuf, who tasked the councillors to step up their games with viable developmental proposals for implementation, also challenged them to initiate projects in their localities to spur direct bearing to the lives of people at the grassroot essentially on education.

The governor also admonished them to maintain cordial relationship with their elected chairmen and remain committement in serving people of their wards to justify the confidence repose on them by the government and people who elected them.

He spoke at length on his government’s effort to transform local government areas including 5 Kilometer roads projects and used the opportunity to commisserate with communities in Shanono and other affected local governments on the recent security unrest assuring that government in collaboration with security agencies are working assiduously to contain the situation.

In his remarks, the Speaker of Kano State House of Assembly who was a former councillor of Falgore Ward in Rogo local council, Rt. Hon. Isma’il Jibril Falgore harps on smooth working relationship between the local Councils and chairmen for the overall peaceful running of the local councils.
