Group empowers 100 youths with sewing machines, catering kits, start-up tools

Tears of joy flowed at the Abatete Civic Centre in Idemili North Local Council of Anambra State on October 12, 2025, as about 100 youths received start-up tools and equipment under an empowerment programme organised by the Abatete Development Organisation (ADO).

The initiative, which cost about N13.3 million, covered the distribution of 38 sewing machines: eight designated for sewing school bags, travelling bags, caps, and lunch boxes, and 26 for tailoring clothes. In addition, 13 young people received complete make-up kits, while 42 others were trained and equipped for catering businesses.

Two beneficiaries were supported to start generator repair ventures, and another two were given barbering tools, including two large mirrors each.
Speaking at the event, the Women Leader of ADO, Lady Adaeze Omaliko, a pharmacist, expressed gratitude to community leaders and benefactors for their contributions.

“ADO women would not have been able to do this without the support of Igwe Abatete, his Obi, High Chiefs and others who came to our aid. We are indeed more than grateful,” she said.

She commended all supporters for helping to “liberate these children from different ills in society” and for “channelling their focus towards productivity,” adding that their efforts had written their names “in gold on the sands of Abatete.”

Omaliko noted that the group planned to extend the programme to more youths who were screened out during the first phase. “We hope to get more support to make it achievable,” she added, appealing for further contributions through the ADO Women Wing’s account at Zikaorah Bank.
