HURIWA seeks N100m compensation for brutalised Anambra corps member

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has urged Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State to pay N100 million in compensation to Jennifer Elohor, a 28-year-old corps member from Delta State serving in Oba, Idemili South Local Council.

Elohor was reportedly assaulted, stripped naked, and taken away for questioning by operatives of the state-owned security outfit, Agunechemba, over what HURIWA described as baseless allegations of Internet fraud.

The association’s national coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko, stressed that if the state government fails to provide compensation, Elohor should consider legal action against it.

HURIWA also called on the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), credible civil rights organisations, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to ensure that the vigilantes responsible for the assault are held accountable.

In addition, the group demanded sanctions against Mr Anayo, the corps member’s direct supervisor, for allegedly failing to protect her from harassment and abuse.

HURIWA condemned the violation of Elohor’s rights and urged the Anambra State government to ensure justice is delivered without bias or favouritism.
