Ibadan varsity confirms release of abducted law student

The University of Ibadan (UI)

The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the University of Ibadan (UI) has confirmed the release of a 300-level Law undergraduate, Miss Abolarin Tomisin, who was abducted alongside several others while returning from a religious conference in Imo State.

Tomisin was kidnapped in June, alongside the National General Director of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship, Uwem Cosmos, and other conference participants, on her way from the Scripture Union National Conference at the Camp of Faith in Okigwe, Imo State.

In a statement, however, the UI SUG President, Temidayo Adeboye, disclosed that the relevant authorities and representatives of the organisation involved confirmed her release from captivity, stating that, alongside the others, Tomisin was undergoing the necessary post-release procedures before returning to the school.

Adeboye commended the security agencies, the university management, the leadership of the Scripture Union, and all those whose efforts contributed to the successful release of the victims.

The union also praised the university community for its prayers, patience, solidarity and support throughout the student’s captivity, while praying for “the complete healing, restoration and well-being of everyone affected.”

Meanwhile, Adeboye also clarified that Tomisin, who is the National Secretary of the Scripture Union Student Fellowship and Vice-President of the UI chapter, was the only UI student among those abducted, contrary to the reports on social media.
