Niger State Governor, Muhammad Umaru Bago, has expressed deep concern over the displacement of communities due to terrorist and bandit activities in the state.
He made the remarks while speaking to newsmen shortly after a special prayer session held at the Government House, Minna, on Sunday, 22nd February 2026, in commemoration of his 52nd birthday.
Governor Bago stated that he dedicated his birthday to prayers for an end to the rising cases of insecurity in parts of Niger State and across the nation. He stressed that there is no better time to seek divine intervention than now, as both Muslims and Christians observe their respective fasts—Ramadan and Lent.
“My 52nd birthday has fallen on the fifth day of Ramadan, which also coincides with Lent for Christians. So I dedicate today for special prayers across the state and in all places of worship for God to bring succour to the people,” Bago said.
While appreciating God for all He has done in his life, the governor also thanked the organisers of the event, his cabinet members, and all those contributing to the success of his administration.
The event featured prayers for the governor and his family’s good health and longevity, as well as peace for Niger State and the nation. Scholars and children present recited passages from the Holy Quran during the session.
Among those in attendance were the governor’s wife, Hajiya Fatima Umaru Bago; Deputy Governor Comrade Yakubu Garba; members of the State Executive Council; and other top government officials.
