The Ekiti State Police Command said its officers, in synergy with other security agencies, including the Non-State Actors, have established a Special Joint Task Force for bush combing operations across the State.
Although there has been no incident of invasion by suspected criminals, the operation, Police Spokesman, Mr Abutu Sunday, said it is a preemptive step to fish out criminal elements that may be camping inside bushes in the state.
Afenifere Youth Leader, Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni, was abducted by suspected Fulani herdsmen on February 17, 2025, in Ondo State while traveling to Abuja.
Ojajuni, while sharing his experience in the hands of his abductors, raised the alarm that the criminal elements have invaded the southwest bushes, calling for immediate and decisive action from the government to address the security crisis.
Also, the Southwest governors have met to discuss strengthening security in the region, reaffirming their commitment to collective action against security challenges.
However, Abutu said the command is also working in collaboration with the neighboring states’ commands on a joint and simultaneous bush combing operation and intelligence sharing.
“The Command is also working in collaboration with the neighboring Commands on a joint and simultaneous bush Combing Operations as well as intelligence sharing,” he said.
“The Area Commanders, DPOs, Tactical and Intelligence Units Commanders have all been tasked by the Commissioner of Police to ensure constant bush combing operations, visibility policing, and intelligence gathering.
“All these proactive measures put in place have helped to ensure that the State remains relatively peaceful and adjudged to be one of the most secure and peaceful States in the Country.”
He, however, implored the people of Ekiti State to be security conscious and promptly report to the Police any suspicious person or group of persons found around their environs or call 08062335577.
Abutu said the command would continue to prioritize the maximum security of the lives and property of the good people of Ekiti State.
