The Jigawa State Government, in collaboration with several NGOs, has resettled 193 flood victims from Borno, now sheltered across 15 internally displaced persons (IDP) camps within the state.
Dr. Mairiga, the Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Emergency Relief Agency (SEMA), disclosed this during a briefing in Dutse on the agency’s activities.
Of the 193 flood victims, 152 are female, 41 are male, and 37 are married women. Dr. Mairiga further revealed that 23 of them were diagnosed with various illnesses but have since received treatment, courtesy of health workers from the state Ministry of Health and partner NGOs.
The Jigawa SEMA also provided relief materials to the flood victims, including 35 mattresses, 20 kettles, 10 large buckets, 10 jerrycans of water, 20 brooms, and 20 dustbins.
“These victims are among the 5,047 displaced persons resettled and currently being taken care of in our 15 IDP camps across Jigawa State,” Dr. Mairiga stated.
Regarding the recent tanker explosion in Majiya, the Jigawa State Government, in partnership with SEMA, spent N102 million on relief efforts. Of this, N60 million was allocated for food items, while N42 million was disbursed as financial assistance, with each of the 210 affected families receiving N200,000. Hospital bills for those injured are also being covered by the government.
The distributed food items include 25 bags of 25kg rice, 10kg of millet, 10kg of maize, and a carton of spaghetti for each of the 210 families affected by the explosion.
Governor Umar Danmodi visited 88 of the injured victims on their hospital beds and assured their families that the state government would bear all medical expenses.
