
Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Mr. Jimoh Abdulqadir in police custody, calling it “one tragedy too many.” He affirmed the state government’s commitment to monitoring the ongoing investigation and called for calm among the public as justice takes its course.
The Governor lauded the swift intervention of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, who promptly visited Abdulqadir’s family in Ilorin. He described the IGP’s actions as a reassuring step toward ensuring justice and accountability.

“We are devastated by the death of Mr. Jimoh Abdulqadir. It was one tragedy too many for our community. It is unacceptable,” Governor Abdulrazaq said in a statement made available to The Guardian by his Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye.
He commended the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin, Abubakar Sidiq Atiku Fulani, and the youths of the area for their maturity in handling the sensitive matter, urging residents to remain calm and law-abiding.
The Governor noted that the visit of the IGP, alongside top police officials, to the deceased’s family shortly after the incident underscores the seriousness with which the case is being handled. He urged the police to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation, ensuring that justice is served.
“We are optimistic that the police hierarchy will get to the roots of this incident, ensure that justice is served, and address other alleged violations and concerns of the citizens,” Abdulrazaq stated.
The tragic death of Abdulqadir, which has sparked widespread grief and anger, has placed a spotlight on the conduct of law enforcement in the state. Governor Abdulrazaq urged all parties to avoid rash conclusions that could hinder the pursuit of truth and justice.
The Governor appealed for calm, particularly among the youth, stressing the need for patience and trust in the process. “I also commend the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin and the youths of the area for the maturity with which the issue has been handled. We ask Allaah to repose the soul of Mr. Jimoh Abdulqadir,” he concluded.
