Kaduna State Commissioner of Police (CP), Rabiu Muhammad

Police in Kaduna have vowed prosecute those involved in a mob action leading to the death of a woman on fictitious allegations of child stealing in Maraban Jos, a suburb in the State.

The Kaduna Police Command strongly condemned the mob violence which subsequently resulted in the gruesome killing the woman on Sunday, 21st June, 2026.

In a statement by the Spokesman of the Police in the State, DSP Mansir Hassan, “at about 1000 hours, the DPO Maraban Jos  received a distress call that a woman was being attacked by a mob over allegations of child theft without proof to support the allegation.”

He said, “responding swiftly, the Divisional Police Officer led officers to the scene, rescued the woman, and moved her to the station for safety and investigation.”

“Despite this, a large crowd in their hundreds later stormed and besieged the police station, overpowered officers on duty, forcibly removed the woman from custody, killed her, and set her body ablaze. The victim is a native of maraban jos”, he added.

However, the Command described the “act as barbaric, criminal, and a direct assault on the rule of law”, stressing that “no person or group has the authority to take the law into their own hands.”

According to Hassan, “several suspects have already been arrested in connection with the incident, and a manhunt is ongoing for others involved.”

” A comprehensive investigation has commenced, and all culprits will face the full weight of the law”, he stayed.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad has  warned that “the Command will not tolerate jungle justice, mob action, or attacks on police formations and personnel”, saying,  “citizens are urged to report suspicious persons or activities to the Police and allow due process”.

According to the statement, “the Kaduna State Police Command remains committed to protecting lives, property, and upholding justice in accordance with the law.”
