The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Works, has announced a 14-day traffic diversion for the second phase of repair works on the Kara Bridge.
The Minister of Works, David Nweze Umahi, disclosed this in a statement signed by the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe.
Komolafe said the diversion was necessary to enable the planned replacement of damaged expansion joints on Kara Bridge (Ch. 5+350 – Ch. 6+115), along the outbound Lagos section.
According to him, the maintenance work will begin tomorrow, March 10, 2026, and is expected to last two weeks, ending on March 24, 2026.
“To facilitate this essential maintenance work, there will be a partial closure resulting in a narrowed road width, which will affect traffic travelling outward Lagos at the Kara Bridge section,” he said.
To reduce traffic congestion during the repair period, Komolafe advised motorists to consider alternative routes.
“Motorists travelling from Ikorodu to Mowe, Sagamu and Ibadan may go through Shimawa or Mosinmi.
“Motorists travelling from Lagos Island may explore the Epe corridor through Ijebu-Ode to reach Sagamu, Ibadan and Mowe.
“Motorists are reminded that a shorter route may not necessarily be the fastest. They are advised to plan their journeys early, obey traffic management directives and drive cautiously around the work zone,” he said.
The Federal Ministry of Works expressed regret over any inconvenience the temporary partial closure may cause and appreciated the understanding and cooperation of motorists as efforts continue to ensure the safety and durability of the nation’s road infrastructure.
