Katsina govt implements extra measures to tackle insecurity

Katsina State Government has said it has planned and will soon implement extra measures that would help tackle the security challenges bedevilling some parts of the state.

Governor Dikko Radda made this known when he paid a sympathy visit to the Gobirawa community in Dutsinma Local Government Area, following last week’s attack by bandits, which claimed more than a dozen lives.

Radda said his administration would implement decisive measures to address the incessant attacks, abductions, and rustling of animals, especially in the frontline councils of the state.

The governor lamented that the bandits attacked the community shortly after security personnel who were mobilised to the area had been withdrawn.

“Government, on hearing security reports on the planned attack, mobilised security personnel to the village,” even as he expressed regret that “the bandits attacked the village as soon as the security personnel left.”

While expressing sympathy over the tragic killings, the governor urged community members to remain vigilant and actively expose suspected informants collaborating with bandits, emphasising the critical role of community participation in combating insecurity.

He also directed the Chairman of the council to present five community members for a crucial meeting to discuss how the state government can best support local security initiatives as a secondary defense measure.
