Kidnapping: Commercial drivers get 72 hours to remove tinted glasses in Imo

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has ordered all commercial drivers operating vehicles with tinted glasses to remove them within 72 hours, amid rising cases of passenger abductions and other crimes.

The directive, issued in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary/Media Adviser, Oguwike Nwachuku, follows intelligence reports linking such vehicles, particularly commercial buses, to criminal activities including kidnapping, armed robbery, and hit-and-run incidents across the state .

“Governor Hope Uzodimma has approved the clampdown on all tinted vehicles used for commercial activities in the state following reports of the use of such vehicles, mainly buses, to perpetrate criminal activities around Imo State. Consequently, all bus drivers operating in the state with such vehicles have been given 72 hours within which to remove their tinted glasses or face the full weight of the law,” the statement said.

It further revealed that recent intelligence indicated a growing trend of commercial vehicles, especially buses with tinted windows, being used for crimes.

To enforce the directive, Governor Uzodimma has instructed security agencies to work with government officials to ensure compliance.

“The Governor has advised the security agencies to collaborate with certain government officials to ensure that the menace caused by the use of commercial buses with tinted glasses is stopped forthwith, and the defaulters legally brought to book if they fail to comply with the directive after three days of grace,” Nwachuku added.
