Kidnapping: Delta governor’s aide wants DPO, police officers transferred

Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Security Matters, John Enamuotor known as Atom has called on the Commissioner of Police (CP) in Delta State to consider a rejig in the security formation attached to Abraka division.

Enamuotor, in a letter, informed the Delta Police chief of the high rate of kidnapping and other related crimes in Abraka, Delta State.

He alleged that the prolonged stay of police officers in Abraka, exceeding 10-15 years has led them into overfamiliarity with crime perpetrators, compromising their effectiveness, and called on the CP to reschedule the officers, particularly the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to bring a fresh perspective to the fight against crime in Abraka

“For this, I am calling for the urgent rescheduling of these officers, particularly the Divisional Police Officer, to bring a fresh perspective to the fight against crime in Abraka,” he said.

“Furthermore, the level of drug abuse in Abraka is alarming, fueling crimes and kidnappings. This is why I wish to urge the CP to take decisive action to checkmate the increased activities of drug dealers and curb their menace in Abraka.

“Additionally, the recruitment of questionable individuals into security outfits (Federal Hunters, Anti-cults, Vigilante, etc) is a major concern, and I recommend a review of the recruitment process to ensure that only credible individuals are enlisted.

“In light of the above, I want to again urge the Commissioner of Police to transfer officers who have stayed in Abraka for over 10 years, investigate the volunteering corps and their recruitment process, and take decisive action against increased drug activities in Abraka.

“I must commend and appreciate the Governor’s efforts in safeguarding lives and properties and improving the standard of living of all Deltans through meaningful projects, effective policies, and quality road networks. His vision for security and progress is commendable.”
