Kogi teachers demand improved salaries after promotion

Teachers in Kogi state have appealed to the state governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, to release necessary cash backing for their promotions.

They also appeal to the governor to employ new teachers to fill the teaching gaps in primary and secondary schools.

Kogi State chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Comr. Yakubu Dauda, made the appeal in Lokoja at a press conference after a prayer session to mark the 2025 Solemn Assembly.

Addressing journalists after the prayer session, the teachers poured encomium on the state governor for his purposeful leadership in the state.

Dauda said, “The administration of Gov Ododo as one that has been very rewarding for Primary School Teachers in the State. The administration has brought smiles to the faces of Primary School Teachers.”

They expressed appreciation to the administration of Ododo for his approval to carry teachers along in the N72,000 minimum wage payment.

The teachers disclosed that primary school teachers are immensely grateful to Ododo for the payment of their September 2020 salary arrears.

The NUT Chairman said the prayer session known as Solemn Assembly is geared towards kick-starting the new year for primary school teachers to thank God and pray for Ododo.

The teachers requested the intervention of the present administration in the cash backing of promotion and incremental rates.

The NUT also appealed for the employment of teachers to address the acute shortage of manpower as well as
training and retraining of teachers.
