Lagos announces 15-month traffic diversion for Mile 2 terminal project

The Lagos State Government has announced a 15-month traffic diversion starting on November 11, 2024, to facilitate the construction of a new Transport Interchange Terminal at Mile 2.

The diversion, affecting Loop 1 on the Apapa-bound lane and Loop 4 on the Badagry-bound lane, is scheduled to last until February 16, 2026.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, OluwaseunOsiyemi, explained that the new terminal will integrate rail, bus, water, and non-motorised transport, improving connectivity and addressing Lagos’s growing transport demands.

According to Osiyemi, motorists travelling to Oshodi from Apapa will have through-traffic access, as will those travelling to Lagos from Badagry.

Motorists heading to Badagry from Apapa should continue on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, turn into Akinwande Road, link Coker, and access the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

Those heading to Apapa from Badagry will be diverted into Durban Road to connect AmuwoOdofin Estate and the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.

The commissioner assured that all diversion routes will be well-marked to assist motorists, and Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officers will manage traffic flow along affected areas.

He advised motorists to cooperate with traffic interventions to minimise inconvenience.

“Motorists are urged to be patient, as this diversion is part of the traffic management plan for the construction of the Transport Interchange Terminal by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA),” Osiyemi said.
