Lagos socialite, Pretty Mike, detained over drug-themed party nightclub

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has detained Lagos-based socialite and nightclub proprietor, Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike, following a raid on his establishment in Victoria Island, Lagos State, where a drug-themed party was allegedly happening.

The operation, which took place in the early hours of Sunday, 26th October, targeted Proxy Nightclub located at 7 Akin Adesola Street.

According to the NDLEA, in a statement on Sunday by its Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, officers had received intelligence regarding the nature of the event and embedded themselves at the venue from 11 pm on Saturday.

The gathering, the statement added, was disrupted at approximately 3am in accordance with the agency’s Standard Operating Procedures.

Over 100 individuals were taken into custody for screening, including Pretty Mike, who was identified as the owner of the club. NDLEA operatives stated that cartons of illicit substances were recovered from the club’s store and from attendees at the event. These included Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, and canisters of laughing gas.

“The raid followed intelligence about the drug party,” the agency noted. “NDLEA operatives who were embedded in the party between 11pm on Saturday 25th October, however disrupted the gathering at 3am on Sunday, 26th October based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).”

The incident forms part of a broader series of operations conducted by the NDLEA across the country in recent weeks, targeting drug trafficking and distribution networks. While the agency has not confirmed whether charges will be brought against Pretty Mike, he remains in custody pending further investigation.

The NDLEA’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer,  General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retired), commended the officers involved in the operation and urged continued vigilance. “We must maintain a balanced approach to drug control—one that combines enforcement with education and community engagement,” he said.

Meanwhile, the NDLEA said it also uncovered 70 parcels of cocaine concealed within cocoa butter body cream containers destined for London, United Kingdom, as part of a coordinated anti-narcotics operation across several Nigerian states.

According to Babafemi, the drug consignment, weighing 3.60 kilogrammes, was intercepted on 14th October 2025 at the export shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, during routine examination of cargoes tagged as personal effects on an Air Peace flight.

A cargo agent, Lawal Mustapha Olakunle, who presented the shipment for airfreight, was arrested immediately. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of Ogunmuyide Taiwo Deborah, a healthcare worker, and Mutiu Adebayo Adebiyi, Chief Executive Officer of a travel agency, Mutiu Adebiyi & Co, at his office on Ladoke Akintola Street, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.

In a related development, NDLEA officers at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport (AIIA), Enugu, thwarted an attempt by Lemena Mark, a 35-year-old Lesotho national, to smuggle 103.59 grammes of methamphetamine concealed in a diabeta herbs coffee tea pack on an Ethiopian Airlines flight to the Philippines on 22nd October.

Elsewhere, 21,950 capsules of tramadol (250mg) were recovered from a 100-litre water heater following the arrest of Umar Abubakar, 40, in Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
