The Lagos State Taskforce has rolled out its plan to ensure that Lekki-Epe Expressway is free from the grip of miscreants and suspected criminals who lay siege in the area.

Speaking on the operation, the Chairman of the Lagos State Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, under special directives of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Adegoke Fayoade, stressed the agency’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Lagos.

He lamented that Lekki-Epe Expressway has become a nest for criminals who daily terrorise motorists and residents in the area unabated.

“We cannot allow these criminal elements to hold our people hostage in their communities. The State Government remains steadfast in its resolve to protect lives and property. This operation is a testament to our unwavering dedication to this cause,” the Chairman stated.

The Lagos State Taskforce, which was met with widespread applause from motorists who witnessed the operation, assured residents that this exercise is part of its mandate as enshrined in the THEMES Plus Agenda of the Governor to restore law and order along the Lekki-Epe Expressway and across the Metropolis.

CSP Akerele further disclosed that the Agency had carried out initial surveillance in the area where it was discovered that these miscreants make use of the pedestrian bridges at Ikate and Marwa Bus Stop to spot broken down vehicles and pounce on the occupants. He assured that all these have become a thing of the past as their activities have been completely grounded. Motorists and residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Agency or the nearest police station.

“We remain on high alert and will continue to carry out surveillance and sting operations aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of motorists and residents along this axis and beyond,” he stated.

The operation, which took place across key locations including Chisco Roundabout, Elegushi, Ikate Roundabout, and Marwa Bus Stop, was executed following a series of complaints lodged by concerned motorists and residents through the Agency’s feedback channels. These individuals reported an alarming rise in criminal activities, particularly during rush hour, where hoodlums would lie in wait at inconspicuous spots along the expressway to pounce on unsuspecting passersby and motorists.
