Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed six persons and abducted two others at Jargaba community, in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.

It was also reported that two children were injured during their operation, with sources stating that stray bullets hit the children.

In addition, the gunmen were said to have entered one of the private residences in the community and abducted two women.

The gunmen were said to have operated with little or no resistance from either local or government security operatives.

Bakori is amongst councils facing incessant security challenges brought about by activities of bandits, kidnappers and rustlers.

On February 5, gunmen stormed Tsiga community in the council area where they abducted former Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Maharazu Tiga (rtd).

The gunmen also abducted nine other persons along with Tsiga. They were only released after spending 56 days in the forest.

Also in mid-February, gunmen attempted to attack Unguwar Sanji, an area where prominent sons of the council reside.

It, however, took the efforts of local vigilantes with support from government security operatives to thwart the evil intent.

The lawmaker representing the council in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulrahman Ahmed, who confirmed the incident, lamented about the security challenges bedevilling the community and council area.

“Yes. According to information available to me, bandits attacked Jargaba community. When they came into the area, they headed straight to a public place where men usually sit to interact.

“Six men were seated there when the gunmen attacked, including an assistant to the commandant of the Community Watch Corps (CWC) of the council area.

“Sadly, they shot and killed the six men. Two children were also injured after stray bullets hit them. The bandits also entered a house and abducted two women.

“We pray for the repose of the souls of the deceased persons, and also pray that Almighty God will bring an end to the security situation in the council area.

“I also extend my condolences to the people of Bakori and Jargaba over the incident. We have contacted relevant security agencies over the security situation in the area,” he added.
