Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a 53-year-old man, Kolawole Babawale, for allegedly sexually abusing his niece as well as facilitating the termination of her pregnancies twice.

The 16-year-old victim, who reported the suspect at the police station, disclosed that she had been subjected to repeated sexual assaults by her uncle.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, following the receipt of the report, the command immediately mobilised operatives in its Gender-Based Offences Unit, who swung into action and arrested the suspect.

While stating that the suspect had been arraigned in court after confessing to the crime, Ayanlade emphasised that Babawale had been carrying out the heinous act at his residence in Igbado, Ondo West Local Government Area of Ondo State.

He said, “The victim further alleged that the suspect engaged in the act almost daily, and that after each episode, he would clean her private part with a piece of cloth.

“Shockingly, the suspect had also facilitated the termination of her pregnancies on two occasions. Upon receipt of this disturbing report, the Gender-Based Offences Unit of the Command immediately swung into action, arrested the suspect, and diligently processed the case for prosecution.

“He has since been arraigned before a competent court of jurisdiction and remanded in custody pending further trial. The Command reiterates its unwavering commitment to protecting the rights of women and children.”

The police spokesperson also revealed that a middle-aged man has been arrested by the operatives of the command for allegedly stabbing a 25-year-old man to death during an altercation.

According to Ayanlade, the suspect, identified as Wale Ibrahim, stabbed the deceased, Fisayo Ajetumobi, with a knife at a construction site along Litaye Camp via Lake Road, Ondo, with the incident reported to the police by one Akinsola Lukman.

“An altercation ensued between the duo of Wale and Gabriel, during which the suspect, Wale Ibrahim, became violent and stabbed one Fisayo Ajetumobi, aged 25 years, on the chest with a knife.

“Sadly, the victim sustained fatal injuries and died on the spot as a result of this unwarranted act of violence.
