The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) in Abeokuta has announced the indefinite closure of the institution, effective Monday, January 13, 2025, in response to ongoing protests by students.

The protests follow a decision by the school administration to verify the National Diploma results of students from their former institutions.

According to the school administration, this is being done to protect people and property because some students objected to the management’s decision to confirm their National Diploma results from their previous schools.

MAPOLY’s spokesperson, Yemi Ajibola, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, saying: “Authorities of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, have announced the closure of the Polytechnic effective from Monday, January 13, 2025, until further notice.

“This is to ensure the safety of lives and property due to the protest by some students regarding the decision of the management to verify their National Diploma results from their former schools.
“Management expressed its zero tolerance for fake results from any quarters. Consequently, students are advised to stay away from the campus in their own interest.

“Parents and the general public are assured of timely updates as events unfold.”

The students are also protesting an alleged increment in their tuition fees and the delay in the mobilisation of their Higher National Diploma students for the National Youth Service Corps.
