Midnight construction workers highlight Wike’s FCT reforms
In a striking display of commitment to governance, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike, has brought his renowned efficiency and vision to Abuja, transforming the city’s infrastructure at an unprecedented pace. A trending video online captures workers and heavy equipment in action at midnight, reflecting Wike’s relentless push to meet project deadlines and deliver modern infrastructure to the capital.
Wike, often referred to as “Mr Projects” due to his tenure as governor of Rivers State, where he implemented extensive developmental projects, has continued to live up to his reputation. Known for his no-nonsense approach to governance, he has turned Abuja into a massive construction site, tackling both the city centre and less developed satellite towns like Bwari, Karishi, and Kubwa.

The video, shared by comedian Gana, shows construction workers, including foreign professionals, working late into the night on a major road project. Gana, speaking in pidgin English, remarked, “See people dey work by 12 midnight till early hours of the day. Na so e suppose be, as dem dey do for abroad wia people dey work for night to avoid traffic. Leader na leader any day anytime. Who say Wike no dey work make una come see.”
Wike’s strategy includes adopting global best practices, such as conducting construction at night to reduce daytime traffic disruptions. Heavy machinery, including caterpillars and other equipment, was seen in action, underscoring the scale of the projects underway.

Within his first 100 days as FCT minister, Wike initiated numerous projects across the city, spanning areas like Asokoro, Maitama, Kado, and other hinterlands. His knack for imposing strict deadlines on contractors has been instrumental in ensuring swift project execution. Contractors unable to meet these deadlines face immediate dismissal, a hallmark of Wike’s results-driven leadership style.
Wike’s efforts extend beyond the city’s central districts, with significant projects reaching underserved satellite communities, creating a ripple effect of development and modernisation. Residents have noted his ability to inspire confidence and deliver tangible progress in governance.
As Abuja continues to evolve into a city with modern road networks and efficient infrastructure akin to global standards, Wike’s transformative leadership is cementing his legacy as a leader committed to excellence and innovation in public service.
