The Bauchi State Police Command reported that an angry mob killed two suspected motorcycle snatchers and set one of the bodies ablaze in the Misau Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.

Police spokesman Ahmed Wakil confirmed the murder of 25-year-old commercial motorcycle operator Muhammad Mamuda Baba Jibir, whose motorbike was stolen after he was intercepted and killed by his assailants.

The incident was reported to Misau Police on August 18, 2024, around 10 pm, when a body was discovered in a pool of blood in Anguwan Agwaluma, Misau.

Detectives found that the victim’s throat had been slit with a knife. His body was transported to the General Hospital, Misau, where a medical doctor confirmed his death.

The motorcycle was later found in the possession of two suspects arrested by the police along the Misau-Kari road.

However, an irate mob lynched the suspects, burning one of the bodies to ashes. The motorcycle was recovered.

Bauchi Police Commissioner Auwal Musa Mohammed condemned the mob’s actions, stating that instead of allowing the police to properly investigate, the crowd overpowered the officers and killed the suspects.

He warned that such behaviour is barbaric and will not be tolerated.
