Musa tasks armed forces on patriotism amid security challenges
As Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence anniversary, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has called on members of the Armed Forces to remain committed to their patriotic duties amidst the nation’s ongoing security challenges. In a statement signed by Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, General Musa stressed the importance of military personnel maintaining peace, stability, and unwavering loyalty to the country’s democratic values.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s journey to nationhood, General Musa honoured the nation’s founding fathers, whose sacrifices paved the way for independence and unity.
He acknowledged that while the road to nationhood has been challenging, the resilience of the Nigerian people has kept the nation united. “This is not to say the journey to nationhood has been all smooth, despite the fact that we obtained our independeWe nce without bloodshed,” Musa remarked, stressing the critical role of the Armed Forces in preserving the nation’s sovereignty.
In his message, the CDS urged the military to move beyond mere rhetoric and commit to their professional duties, particularly as Nigeria grapples with insurgency, banditry, and other criminal activities.
He praised the military’s role in supporting the nation’s democracy, highlighting the Armed Forces’ 25-year commitment to remaining in the barracks while ensuring civilian governance thrives.
General Musa lauded the bravery of Nigerian troops, recognising their efforts as the backbone of the country’s fight against insecurity. However, he cautioned that more work is needed, calling on citizens and the military to collaborate in addressing the nation’s security challenges.
“All hands must be on deck in our collective efforts to curtail the insecurity bedevilling the nation,” he said, urging Nigerians to report any suspicious activities.
In a stern warning to those seeking to destabilise the country, General Musa reaffirmed that the Armed Forces would not allow subversive actions to undermine the nation’s stability.
He called for national unity and condemned divisive actions that threaten the country’s progress.
General Musa concluded by expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support of the military, as well as to other branches of government for their contributions to national development.
He extended his best wishes to all Nigerians for a peaceful and joyous Independence Day celebration.
“Once again, happy Independence anniversary to all Nigerians,” he said.
