The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has pledged to investigate all credible reports of child sexual abuse and misconduct following renewed controversy over past social media posts by Nigerian singer, Simisola Bolatito Kosoko, popularly known as Simi.
The agency’s response comes after years-old tweets by the singer resurfaced online amid public debate triggered by sexual assault allegations made by TikTok personality Mirabel, which went viral on February 16, 2026.
Some social media users interpreted Simi’s old posts as exhibiting gender bias, accusing her of promoting a double standard that sidelines male victims. In response, the singer said her comments were being misconstrued.
She stated: “14 years ago, I was 23, so I was definitely not a child. I’m not here to make excuses because I don’t have anything to make excuses for. What I can’t let anyone do is twist my story to fit false narratives.
“In 2012, I lived and helped out at my mother’s daycare while I was hustling my music. I tweeted everything that happened in my life, as we all did at the time. Kids can be mischievous. If a child did something I found funny, I tweeted about it. Kids are cute and lovable. I want to hug, kiss and cuddle them. I tweet about it. Nothing I tweeted was from perversion.
“I have always spoken against rape and sexual assault even before you knew I existed. It’s not a costume I’m wearing, it’s who I am. I said stop raping women. I stand by it.”
Simi also disclosed that some of the tweets had been deleted due to their sensitivity to her family.
Reacting in a statement, NAPTIP said it remained committed to investigating all credible claims of child sexual abuse and misconduct.
“Following recent public discussions and concerns raised regarding alleged incidents of child sexual abuse and misconduct in daycare settings in Nigeria, we are committed to thoroughly investigating credible reports.
“We kindly request anyone with factual information, evidence, direct knowledge, or who was personally affected by the matters referenced in the viral posts or related experiences to reach out to us confidentially,” the agency said.
