Nasarawa police arrest nine suspects, recover firearms, ammunition

The Nasarawa State Police Command, in three separate operations, arrested nine suspects and intercepted 4,264 rounds of ammunition in Nasarawa/Benue communities.

The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed Jauro, stated this on Tuesday at a press briefing at the Police State headquarters, Lafia.

CP Shettima stated that, based on credible intelligence, he was informed that gun runners from Benue State were spotted in a forest near Kardarko, offloading arms and ammunition for further distribution to criminal associates.

“I personally led a team of operatives to the location. On sighting the operatives, the suspects abandoned their luggage and fled deep into the forest.

“A search of the scene led to the recovery of four AK 49, three AK 47, one G3 rifle, one sub-machine gun, 11 magazines, 4,046 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and 75 cartridges,” he said.

In another operation at Akwanga, Akwanga Local Government, two gun runners were arrested at about 5:00 pm last week at Akwanga motor park.

The suspect John Paul, who was en route to Abuja, Federal Capital Territory, was found with five locally fabricated rifles, and the suspect, according to the CP, has given useful statements that are aiding the investigation.

“I wish to reassure residents of Nasarawa State that the command under my watch will not relent in its determination to rid the state of criminal elements and urge everyone to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of security agencies through timely information sharing,”
