The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, has responded to a viral video alleging that the Officer in Charge of Building ordered the demolition of a mosque under construction at the Nigeria Customs Secondary School in Idiroko.
The Command’s spokesperson, CSC Hameed Oloyede, clarified that an investigation revealed the mosque project had not received formal approval and did not align with the official master plan for the school and junior barracks premises.
According to Oloyede, the Command has designated areas for religious activities, including established mosques and a chapel located across the border area, at the Comptroller Area Controller’s residence, and within the senior and junior officers’ barracks.
Oloyede further explained that under the current Officer in Charge of Building, a mosque in the junior barracks had recently undergone renovation and expansion, highlighting the Command’s support for religious facilities within its jurisdiction.
To address the concerns, Customs Area Controller Comptroller James Ojo has intervened directly, pledging to lay the foundation for a new mosque at an approved location within the premises.
Ojo committed to overseeing the mosque’s construction, ensuring it adheres to the Command’s guidelines.
In his statement, Ojo urged stakeholders to exercise patience and understanding, underscoring the importance of respect when addressing religious matters.
He also advised the school administration to promote harmony within the community surrounding the barracks.
