The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State Command, has arrested 306 suspected drug offenders and prosecuted 64 persons for various drug-related offences between January and May 2026.
The State Commander of the agency, Tijjani Rabe, disclosed this on Thursday during the commemoration of the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, themed: “The World Drug Problem: Persistent Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses.”

According to Rabe, those arrested comprised 272 males and 34 females, while 140 suspects, including 136 males and four females, underwent counselling and rehabilitation programmes during the period under review.
He noted that the command also seized 2,518.16 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 86.74 kilograms of methamphetamine, cocaine and tramadol, as well as 44.90 litres of codeine and 171.50 litres of substances popularly known as “skuchies” and “monkey tail.”

Providing a review of the agency’s activities in 2025, Rabe said the command arrested 771 suspects, made up of 650 males and 121 females. Of the figure, 318 persons received counselling, while 159 offenders were convicted.
He added that the command seized 6,179.25 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 236.52 kilograms of methamphetamine, cocaine and tramadol, 1,435.62 litres of codeine, and 1,220.13 litres of skuchies and monkey tail during the period.

The commander disclosed that the agency’s drug abuse sensitisation campaigns reached over 60,100 people across the state in 2025, while 53,269 persons had been reached within the first five months of 2026.
Rabe expressed concern over the continued circulation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in the state, describing the trend as a major challenge.

He also revealed that the command recently dismantled a large clandestine methamphetamine laboratory allegedly operated by Mexican nationals in Ogun State.
“The discovery of a clandestine methamphetamine laboratory in Ogun State is a serious warning sign. It shows that drug traffickers are changing tactics by establishing production facilities within our communities, taking advantage of industrial areas and isolated locations,” he said.

He urged community leaders, landlords’ associations and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, including unusual chemical odours, excessive generator use at odd hours, high perimeter fencing and restricted access to properties.
Rabe reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring that Ogun State does not become a safe haven for drug production and trafficking.

He appealed to members of the public to provide credible intelligence to security agencies, stressing that timely information remains critical in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Also speaking at the event, the wife of the Ogun State Governor and Matron of the State Drug Control Committee, Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, advised parents and guardians to pay closer attention to their children and wards to prevent them from becoming involved in drug abuse.

Represented by the Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Drug and Health Commodities Management Agency (OGDHMA), Dr. Funke Oyeneye, Mrs. Abiodun reaffirmed the state’s commitment to supporting the NDLEA’s advocacy and enforcement efforts against drug trafficking and substance abuse.
