Nine killed in Katsina crash on Malumfashi-Kafur road

No fewer than nine people died in a road accident on Sunday morning along the Malumfashi-Kafur Road in Katsina State, Nigeria.

The Katsina State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Aliyu Ma’aji, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Sunday. The crash involved a single Hummer bus carrying 20 passengers.

According to Ma’aji, the accident occurred in Malumfashi town when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle.

Preliminary investigations pointed to speeding as the cause of the driver losing control, leading to the fatal crash.

The FRSC commander detailed the incident further, saying, “The FRSC, Katsina State Command, announced to the general public of an ugly incident of road traffic crash at Malumfashi town, on Malumfashi – Kafur Road. It resulted in the death of nine people travelling in a Hummer bus conveying 20 people, 11 persons were rescued and are now receiving treatment at a hospital for varying degrees of injuries.”

He urged motorists to avoid speeding, overloading, and reckless driving, particularly during festive periods.
