The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has deployed 4,500 personnel to ensure a peaceful and secure celebration of Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day.
The FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, said the deployment was aimed at safeguarding lives, property, and critical national infrastructure before, during, and after the celebrations.
“We have also deployed undercover units for covert operations and surveillance to preempt any unforeseen emergencies,” he said. “The personnel will include members from specialised units such as the Female Strike Force, Arms Squad, Operation Adakasu, and the Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosives unit. Significant resources will be allocated to vulnerable locations and soft targets, including shopping malls, recreational centres, prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, amusement parks, and government buildings.”
Odumosu directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to remain vigilant within their jurisdictions. “All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of breaches; ensure you deploy your personnel adequately. Avoid harassment and intimidation of any citizen, as well as accidental discharge,” he warned. He also urged officers to uphold professionalism, collaborate with other security agencies, and adhere strictly to the rules of engagement.
Reassuring FCT residents, Odumosu said: “We assure you of a safe celebration by ensuring a secured environment. My personnel are ready to ensure a peaceful celebration; you have a part to play too by being proactive.”
He advised the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest law enforcement agency. He also warned criminals to stay away from critical infrastructure, stressing that covert officers were monitoring the capital. “We will not hesitate to bring any offenders to justice,” he said.
The Commandant wished residents a joyous 65th Independence Day celebration and urged them to maintain faith in Nigeria while praying for the nation’s continued progress.
