The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Lagos branch, has donated toilets, educational materials, and other facilities to three schools in Lagos as part of efforts to enhance learning and inspire schoolchildren.
The items, provided under the branch’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, include exercise books, drums, and solar systems. The branch also covered the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) fees for 16 students and partitioned classrooms for one of the schools.
During a visit to Akoka Nursery and Primary School in Yaba, the Chairman of the NSE Lagos branch, Mrs Olukorede Kesha, expressed the society’s commitment to supporting education and child development through regular outreach programmes.
Represented by the Vice Chairman, Mr Bakare Opeyemi, Kesha stated: “We are here today as representatives of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Lagos Branch, to give back to the community.
“We previously visited this school, inquired about their needs, and they requested a band set for the pupils. We have now provided them with a full drum set, as well as exercise books, and pens.”
The Head Teacher of the school, Mrs Vivian Okeke, expressed gratitude for the donations, noting: “The drum set will motivate the children to come to school early, pray, and start their day with energy.” She appealed for further support, particularly in writing materials, as many pupils come to school without books or proper bags.
At Bright Achievers Academy in Bariga, the NSE Lagos branch donated exercise books, partitioned classrooms with concrete blocks, built six toilets, and covered WASSCE fees for 16 students.
The founder of the school and Creative Director of the Footprints of David Art Foundation, Mr Seun Awobajo, praised the branch’s continuous support, highlighting its impact on the school’s facilities and operations.
In her remarks, Kesha reiterated the branch’s commitment to addressing the academic, personal, and home-related needs of students and mentioned plans to mobilise further support through spouses.
At Eva Adelaja Girls Senior High School in Bariga, the NSE Lagos branch installed a solar system, which was commended by the principal, Mrs Soyoye Ibunoluwa, for improving the school’s power supply. She also requested a school bus to facilitate students’ transportation for competitions.
A student of the school, Miss Omowonuola Adekoya, expressed appreciation for the solar system, emphasising its positive impact on teaching and learning.
Kesha, an alumna of Eva Adelaja Girls Senior High School, reaffirmed the NSE Lagos branch’s dedication to community outreach, aimed at creating better learning environments for children.
