NURTW donates items to 700 orphans of deceased members in Yobe

The Yobe State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has donated relief materials to 700 children of its deceased members across the 17 local councils of the state.

The union stated that the donation aims to support the welfare and development of the orphans in their respective communities. Presenting the materials in Damaturu, NURTW State Chairman Karumi Alhaji Goni emphasised that the initiative highlights the union’s commitment to assisting its members and their families, especially during economic hardships and amid the high costs of living.

Goni called on federal and state governments, non-governmental organisations, and philanthropists to extend help to vulnerable groups, particularly orphans who face challenges securing their future in the current economic climate.

During the distribution, the Yobe First Movement (YFM) State Coordinator, Sadiq Mohammed, remarked, “The donated relief materials and N100,000 have brought hope and comfort to those affected by the loss of their loved ones.”

He explained that YFM had facilitated the delivery of materials and cash for distribution to the families of deceased union members in the state. The items included 400 pieces of women’s wrappers, 100 pieces of shaddah clothes, and N100,000 to cover the orphans’ transport fares to their local council areas.

Speaking on behalf of the orphans from the Nayi-Nawa community, Fatima Usman expressed her gratitude to the union, noting that the relief materials would greatly ease their economic difficulties.
