OAU searches for missing female student, collaborates with police

The authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, are working with the Osun State Police Command to locate a female student of the institution who has been missing for four days.

The university’s spokesperson, Abiodun Olarewaju, said the student, identified as Dorcas Oseghale of the Department of Chemistry, with matriculation number CHM/2021/165, was last seen at about 8:00 p.m. on August 6, 2025.

Dorcas, a resident of Adesanmi House, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife, was said to have gone to buy food in front of the students’ village along Ede Road, but did not return. Attempts by her roommate to reach her on her two phone lines were unsuccessful .

Olarewaju said the university’s security unit began tracking discussions on the matter after a missing person’s report was circulated on a students’ social media platform at about 3:00 p.m. on August 7. Later that day, at about 6:10 p.m., some students from the Department of Chemistry, accompanied by Dorcas’s roommate, reported the case to the security unit.

Given the complexity of the situation and the unit’s limited resources, three security personnel were assigned to work with the students and hand over preliminary findings to the police for further investigation.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Adebayo Simeon Bamire commended the students for promptly raising the alarm and urged the police and other security agencies to intensify efforts to find the missing student. He appealed to anyone with useful information to contact the nearest police station or the OAU security unit.
