Kogi state governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has vowed that poliomyelitis remain eradicated in all nooks and crannies of Kogi state.
Governor Ododo made the declaration while flagging of the 2025 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) and African Vaccination Week at Primary school Lokongoma, Kogi state.
Ododo who was represented on the occasion by the state Commissioner for health Dr Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza said, “Polio has long been eradicated in Nigeria including Kogi state, and we will ensure it remain eradicated in Kogi state.
“Hence government is taking this immunization exercise as top priority due to our resolve that to perpetually keep polio eradicated in our dear state. Government will step up it’s commitment and determination to maintain the current status quo”
In his remarks, the state Commissioner for health Dr Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza who was represented by the
permanent secretary state ministry of health Dr Dorcas Enehe assured families that the vaccine is free and safe and all parents should present their children for the exercise.
The commissioner noted family should take advantage of the opportunity to strengthen the health of their children and parents should be to be receptive to the vacinators. “We do not want to lose any Kogi child due to negligence of parents or negligence of the vaccinators”
Earlier in a welcome address, the executive director Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KSPHCDA) Dr Muazu Musa Omeiza said, Today event represents the flagg-off of Polio immunization across the country targeting children age 0-5.
“As an agency, it is an opportunity for us as a state to armed all children of Kogi state in accordance to Gov Ododo agenda to build a stronger and healthier Kogi state from childhood to adulthood. The immunization is free and we don’t expect any child within the age bracket to miss out of the opportunity.
There were goodwill messages from unicef, WHO, KGSHIA and the traditional rulers who were in attendance on the flag off ceremony.
