Ogun state Auto Crash

Two persons have lost their lives in an auto crash that occurred in the early hours of Thursday at Ogbere Junction along the Ogbere–J4 corridor of Ogun State.

Two other persons also escaped unhurt from the accident with no injuries recorded.

Involved in the crash are: white Mack truck with registration number ABC660XC and an orange Peugeot J5 bus with an unknown registration number.

Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun State, Afolabi Odunsi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta yesterday.

Odunsi said that four male occupants were involved in the fatal crash that occurred at about 5:a.m on Thursday where two persons died and two other escape death by whiskers.

He said that the cause of the crash was due to Route Violation(RTV) and Speed Violation(SPV) which resulted to the Peugeot bus colliding with the truck and catching fire immediately with its front section completely burnt.

The superintendent route commander said the FRSC operatives were on ground for a rescue mission and diverted the affected lane to the alternative carriageway to ease traffic congestion.

He said that the remains of the deceased victims were evacuated by the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division (MTD), Ogbere Division, and deposited at the mortuary.

The FRSC Public Relations Officer added that efforts are ongoing to remove the wreckage and restore free flow of traffic.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and stressed the need for motorists to obey traffic regulations at all times.

Ogunjobi warned drivers against speeding and route violations, especially during periods of poor visibility and on wet road surfaces, noting that such driving behaviours have continue to be major causes of fatal crashes on Nigerian roads.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment, and prompt rescue operations.

The Sector Commander also advised motorists to drive responsibly, maintain safe speeds, and ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey.
