Ogun security chiefs intensify anti-crime operations along Ogun-Ondo border

Security chiefs in Ogun State on Sunday conducted a high-level joint operational assessment and show of force across the Ogun-Ondo border corridor as part of renewed efforts to strengthen security, sustain anti-crime operations and reinforce inter-agency collaboration in the area.

The exercise, which covered the Ogun Waterside axis, including Iwopin, Abigi and Ibiade communities, was aimed at consolidating the gains of the ongoing “Operation Kosaye” and maintaining pressure on criminal elements operating within the border communities.

The command spokeperson, DSP., Oluseyi Babaseyi disclosed that the operation was led by the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, alongside the Security Consultant to Governor Dapo Abiodun, retired Commissioner of Police Edward Ajogun. Other participants included the Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brig.-Gen. J.O. Onu; the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Ogun State, R.A. Adelakun; the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Remilekun Ekundayo; the Commander of the Ogun State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), retired Brig.-Gen. Alade Adedigba; and the Commander of the So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzallo.

Chairmen of Ijebu East, Ijebu North East and Ogun Waterside local government areas also joined the security assessment.

The team traversed strategic communities along the Ijebu Ode-Ore Expressway, beginning from Ijebu Ode through J2, J3, J4, Itele, Atoyo, Agerige, Ogbere, Ibiade, Iwopin and Abigi before ending the exercise at Ajebandele, the boundary community between Ogun and Ondo states.

Babaseyi stated that the exercise enabled security agencies to evaluate vulnerable locations, review operational requirements, and assess the terrain to improve ongoing security operations across the corridor.

He added that the assessment also provided an opportunity for security agencies to strengthen intelligence sharing, enhance operational coordination and engage community stakeholders on the need for greater public participation in crime prevention.

According to him, , “show of force was intended to reassure residents, commuters and other road users of the readiness of security agencies to protect lives and property and maintain a sustained security presence along the Ogun-Ondo border.

Speaking after the exercise, Ojajuni commended the cooperation among the participating security agencies, government officials and other stakeholders, describing inter-agency collaboration as critical to addressing security challenges across the state.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining joint security operations, improving intelligence gathering, deploying technology-driven policing strategies and strengthening collaboration with local communities.

The police commissioner also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, stressing that effective policing depends on timely and credible information from members of the public

The joint operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies in Ogun State to curb criminal activities along border communities and improve public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
