Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State on Friday crowned Oba Olatunji Fayemi as the first Onitedo of Mahintedo.
Oba Fayemi became king following the recommendations of the Justice C.E.T Ajama Commission of Inquiry on Chieftaincy Matters and the subsequent approval of the Onitedo Kingship stool by the Ondo State Government on December 9, 2024.
Performing the official ceremony, Governor Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, congratulated the people of Mahintedo for having their first officially recognized Oba.
This was revealed in a Friday statement by the deputy governor’s spokesperson, John Paul Akinduro. According to the statement, Oba Fayemi was presented with the instrument of appointment and staff of office, making him the maiden Onitedo of Mahintedo in the Ilaje council area of Ondo State.
He said, “While rejoicing with Kabiyesi on this well-deserved recognition, it is my prayer that God Almighty will endow you with the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding to lead your people rightly in the enormous task of traditional leadership.”
The governor tasked the newly installed monarch to use his authority to bring peace, unity, and development to the community.
He thanked the people of Ilaje Local Government for their overwhelming support in the last governorship election and the just-concluded local government election, promising more development projects across the state.
In his address, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dele Adesanmi, said due process was fully observed in the approval of the Onitedo Kingship stool.
Appreciating the state government and the people of the community, the monarch pledged to govern fairly and work with the government to bring the needed development to Mahintedo.
In another development, the governor commissioned a cassava processing mill in Mahintedo, a joint project between the Ondo State Government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), which will produce 400kg of garri per day.
He described the landmark project as contributing to food security in the state and one that will positively impact the community.
The governor also laid the foundation for a community market facilitated by the member representing Ilaje Constituency 2 in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Olawumi Fayemi-Obayelu.
