The King Jaja Executive Authority has issued a statement denying rumours of the death of His Majesty, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, the Amanyanabo of Opobo Kingdom.
The statement, signed by Jekiopusenibo Godswill F. Pepple, Secretary of the King Jaja Executive Authority, described the rumours as “unfortunate, unfounded, and wicked.”
“We clearly and unequivocally state that there is no truth in these reports and rumours and should therefore be disregarded by all well-meaning people across the world,” the statement read.
The authority attributed the spread of false information to “unscrupulous elements” who are only expressing their “devilish wishes”.
The rebuttal came following news that made the rounds that the revered monarch had passed after a brief illness.
The statement emphasised the importance of verifying claims before sharing them, noting that spreading false information can have significant emotional impacts on individuals and their families.
“It can lead to unnecessary panic, distress, and confusion,” the authority warned.
Pepple called on all persons in and outside Opobo Kingdom to immediately stop the spread of these malicious reports and rumours.
“Let us exercise caution before jumping to conclusions,” the authority advised. “We must be vigilant in ensuring that the information we share is accurate and respectful.”
The statement urged everyone to disregard the false reports and to continue respecting and supporting their monarch.
