Residents and business owners in Warri and Effurun, Delta State, have expressed satisfaction with the ongoing Warri/Effurun Roads and Flyovers Project, lauding the progress and the renewed economic activity springing up around construction zones.
At the Delta Steel Company (DSC) Flyover, where construction is advancing, petty traders, artisans and small businesses have emerged and are reportedly thriving. Estate agent, Mr Friday Onome, praised the Delta State government for engaging Julius Berger to handle the urban renewal initiative, describing it as the best decision so far.
“The project is already making a visible impact. Roads that were once in terrible condition are coming back to life,” Mr Onome said. He revealed that he had relocated his office from Jakpa Road to Osubi Road to be closer to the development. He described Julius Berger’s Life Camp as a testament to the company’s commitment to quality. “If their staff camp is that well-built, imagine what they’re delivering with these roads and bridges,” he added.
At Enerhen Junction, where another flyover is under construction, food vendors, PoS operators, second-hand clothing traders and commercial motorcycle riders have moved in, anticipating a commercial boom once the project is completed.
“We can’t wait for the day Julius Berger finishes this job and opens up the roads,” said a food vendor, Mama Ejiroghene. “Then, Warri will be booming again. That’s why everyone is happy and cooperating with them. Anyone against this project is against progress.” Project Manager, Mr Thomas Haug, confirmed that progress was being made and hinted at the possibility of beating the agreed completion deadline.
Meanwhile, in line with Julius Berger’s efforts to partner with communities surrounding project sites, the company has carried out Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities with the repair and maintenance of community roads as well as the community primary school. The residents appreciate these gestures.
