Coordinator of the #Take Back Naija group for the Amuwo-Odofin local government axis, a support group under the ObiDatti campaign group, Martins Udegbunam, has said that the ObiDatti four million march taking place tomorrow, would be one that would shape the campaigns positively for them towards next year’s elections.

Speaking at a press conference held at their head office in FESTAC, Amuwo-Odofin local government area yesterday, he said the main aim of the conference is to create awareness and sensitise people on the four million march taking place all over Lagos on October 1. Udegbunam said the march, zoned to three locations including Lekki, Festac and Ikeja would witness mammoth crowds of ardent supporters at each location.

“The Lekki march will kick off from Lekki Admiralty gate while the Ikeja march would set off from Archbishop Vinning Memorial Church just as the FESTAC march would take off from SFH playground on 23 road.”

He said they came together to form the group because they saw the decay in the country and resolved to get involved and play their part. “Nigeria should be one of the greatest countries in the world looking at all indices. Nigerians are all over the world, thriving in all areas because we are a talented and resourceful people.

“However, good governance has eluded us for decades. We need a good leader that can drive us to our desired destiny because the leaders we have had over the years have been driving us to our destruction. Our leaders steal and steal, and even take our resources outside the country. We can’t continue to fold our hands and continue watching them steal from us and destroy this country. We need to salvage what’s left of the country.”

“As our name implies, we want to take the country back from the people that have destroyed it. The office of the citizen is the number one office. Politicians have a four year contract with citizens and after their term expires, they come back to the office of the citizen. We mustn’t leave the affairs of this country again to just the politicians, we have to take back our country, decide and determine how we’re being governed and we need right people in place to do this. We need people that would be accountable to the citizens and fufill the contract they have with the people.”

The spirited coordinator said next year’s elections won’t be business as usual as the people’s votes must count this time around. “Apart from this general march, we’re going door to door, canvassing and sensitizing people on the importance of their votes and how it would count this time around.”

To ensure they are not just canvassing in vain, he said during the registration of voters, they ensured that people not only registered but got their voters’ cards. “Take Back Naija is a pressure group, not a political organization and we want to ensure the right things are done. We have different members from the three main political parties as well as other parties amongst us. We have just one vision; and that is to get the right people in place to steer the affairs of this country well. That has and will always remain our main goal,” he divulged.
