The Oyo State Fire Service has recovered one body from the scene of a road accident in Ibadan, while also rescuing no fewer than nine persons from a separate fire incident in the state capital.

The accident occurred on Saturday in front of Omo Ajorosun Club House along the busy Total Garden axis of Ibadan. Eyewitnesses said an ASHOK Leyland truck with registration number FFF340XB (Ogun) reportedly ran over a motorcycle, crushing it in the process.

Officials of the fire service who responded to the distress call recovered the body of a male victim from the scene.
The remains were subsequently handed over to officers of the Nigeria Police from the Yemetu Division for further investigation and necessary procedures.

In a related development, firefighters also rescued nine persons from a fire outbreak at a private residential building located at No. 18, Idi Oro Road (A), Sode area, along Ajibode in Ibadan.
The incident affected a four-bedroom flat, causing panic among residents before emergency responders arrived.

Sources said the victims, who sustained varying degrees of injuries and distress, were promptly attended to by emergency officials and rushed to Oyo Mesi Specialist Hospital for proper medical treatment.
Meanwhile, another fire incident was reported in Iseyin, in the Oke-Ogun geopolitical zone of the state, where three shops were gutted by fire, destroying goods and properties worth millions of naira. The cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained at the time of filing this report.

Confirming the incidents, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, said the agency received distress calls and immediately deployed personnel to the affected locations.
“Our officers quickly swung into action upon receiving the alerts. At the accident scene, a male victim was recovered and handed over to a team of policemen from Yemetu Police Divisional Headquarters led by ASP Atiola Wasiu,” Akinwande said.

He added that the swift response of the fire service helped to minimise casualties and prevent further damage, particularly in the fire outbreaks.
Akinwande urged residents to always adhere to safety precautions and promptly alert emergency agencies in the event of accidents or fire outbreaks, stressing that timely intervention remains critical in saving lives and property.

The incidents have once again highlighted the importance of emergency preparedness and rapid response in a densely populated city like Ibadan.
