Police aiding estate land grabbers in Rivers – LG chairman
The Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has promised to wage ‘war’ against alleged land grabbers in Royal Estate, accusing the police of aiding them.
Ihunwo made the promise in a video posted on his official X account on Tuesday evening after responding to a Save Our Soul (SOS) call by residents of Royal Estate at SARS road in Obio/Akpor LGA.
Ihunwo also accused the police of aiding and abetting the land grabbers, saying “The Nigerian Police Force should be blamed because they are aiding all these people causing crisis.”
The residents of the estate represented by their chairman, Udoka Ejeh had accused a certain Douglas known as Don Wizaro of using officers of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) to take their lands from them.
Ejeh said Douglas had even arrested two widows who lived in the Royal Estate after conniving with the police, adding that the women were also charged to a ‘kangaroo’ magistrates court.
Responding, the chairman of Obio/Akpor LGA, Ihunwo, said he would ensure that Douglas and his cohorts are arrested and brought to justice for land grabbing.
“We got the information on Monday night and I decided to visit the estate to see things for myself,” Ihunwo told reporters.
“First, as a local government, we will not allow such act of land grabbing within our territory, therefore, we will swing into action.
“I also want to assure the residents of Royal Estate that we will act swiftly and as such, they should go home and sleep peacefully.
“The same man who calls himself don or whatever name he has given himself, we will soon get him arrested.”
He warned that as a local government, Obio/Akpor will not tolerate the act of land grabbing from anyone.
