Operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, Delta State Police Command, have arrested a 47-year-old native doctor, Okonji Chimeze, following the recovery of two automatic pump-action guns and a cutlass. Delta State Police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in Asaba yesterday.
According to him, the arrest was made on June 14, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m., when officers, acting on credible intelligence, raided the suspect’s residence in Ibuza.
“A search warrant was executed at the premises, during which two automatic pump-action guns and a cutlass were discovered hidden in the ceiling of the suspect’s room,” Edafe stated. He added that the suspect and the recovered items remain in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations.
In a separate operation, the Eagle-Net Surveillance Team stationed at Ughelli North Local Council intercepted a black Toyota Corolla with registration number RSH 90 RC during a routine stop-and-search along Otokutu Bridge, Warri.
The vehicle, driven by Telvin Richmond, 27, and accompanied by Frank Obiorah, 26, was subjected to a thorough search. Police discovered a locally made cut-to-size gun, two yellow hand bands inscribed with “Neo Black Movement” (NBM), a battle axe, and a wooden pistol concealed inside the vehicle’s door compartments.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of the Aiye confraternity. “The suspects confessed that the gun was purchased in 2024 for N87,000 from another suspect who is currently at large,” Edafe disclosed.
