The police in Osun State said it has arrested three suspects, including a member of staff of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), for allegedly selling six bundles of mosquito nets belonging to the state government.
In a statement, spokesperson for the command, Abiodun Ojelabi, explained that on June 9, 2026, the command received an intelligence report on the alleged illegal sale of government-owned mosquito nets meant for public distribution.
According to him, preliminary investigation revealed that one Rabbi Bennett, ‘f’, from Delta State, and a staff of USAID attached to Ife North Local Council Area, Ipetumodu, reportedly had a dispute with a commercial cyclist identified as Opeyemi Ajibola, of Ayetoro Street, Ipetumodu, over the proceeds of the unlawful sale of mosquito nets.
Ojelabi further hinted that the suspects, in collaboration with Aminu Ibrahim, allegedly sold six bundles containing 300 pieces of mosquito nets on June 8, 2026.
According to the police, “the mosquito nets were originally meant to be distributed free of charge to members of the public, as directed under the government health intervention programme.”
He added that following the incident, the three suspects were arrested and taken into custody for interrogation, during which they reportedly confessed to their involvement in the alleged offence.”
Meanwhile, the case has since been charged to court, and all suspects have been remanded at the correctional centre pending further judicial proceedings.
