Insecurity: Kogi police ban unregistered vehicles, covered number plates

Police arrest woman for alleged diversion of company’s N3m

The Kogi State Police Command has banned the use of vehicles with covered number plates, as well as unregistered vehicles/motorcycles across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Bethrand C. Onuoha, stated that the order became necessary following intelligence that criminals hide under the guise to carry out criminal activities, which constitute security threats to the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP William Ovye Aya, and made available to journalists in Lokoja on Tuesday.

He further disclosed that this act had led to an increase in criminal activities, engendered an atmosphere of lawlessness, and concealed perpetrators of crime. This, he said, has become an obstacle in checkmating crime and criminality in the state by law enforcement agents.

The CP advised owners of vehicles with covered number plates to remove them and those without registration numbers to register or have their vehicles impounded by law enforcement agents.

He further stated that it is illegal for vehicle owners and drivers to cover their number plates or drive without registration numbers.

The CP urged the general public to comply with this order, as the police will commence the clampdown and impounding of vehicles and prosecution of offenders.

He advised members of the public to register their vehicles, remove covered number plates, and replace the defaced number plates, among others.
